PLANT WALK / Clark Park / Wed, April 18

>>>> Please register through Eventbrite <<<<

Wednesday, April 18, 2018 / 6-7:30p / Clark Park, West Philadelphia (exact meeting location will be emailed before event)

Enhance your botanical literacy of Philadelphia’s diverse palette of urban flora, now emerging from its winter’s rest. Familiarize yourself with plant families, botanical nomenclature, and identification skills. We’ll discuss plant life cycles, growing conditions, ecological relationships, human uses, and cultivation. You’ll be able to translate this practice in your own hikes, park strolls, gardening, or foraging.

This event is pay-what-you-can, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds, though pre-registration is highly recommended. More generous contributions allow us to provide access for those with less means.

Location/ accessibility: Clark Park is a 9-acre urban park in West Philadelphia, consisting primarily of lawn, trees, and shade-tolerant ornamental shrubs and herbaceous plants. Participants should expect to traverse grass and gravel paths. We recommend comfortable footwear, a water bottle, and a notebook.

About the instructor: Kristen Jas Vietty is a lifelong plant geek. As a grower and former permaculture designer, she has worked with kitchen potagers, organic farms, estate gardens, native landscapes, small businesses, and municipal parks.  Her artistic explorations have included natural pigments and plant-based papermaking, and she practices sustainable wildcrafting of botanicals for culinary, floral, dye, and herbal use. Kristen currently specializes in floral design utilizing locally farmed, gleaned, and foraged species.

Weather cancellation policy: Events may be postponed or cancelled in the event of extreme weather (light rain will typically not affect event). Contributions are non-refundable, but in the case of cancellation, you can email [email protected] to arrange a transference of credit to another upcoming plant walk.
